The 60 original Sherlock Holmes stories were written between 1887 and 1926 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and consist of four novels and 56 short stories. All were published in journals and most were serialized, meaning they were made available to the public one chapter, or story, at a time. These works are referred to as the Canon.
